When your Goals are Defined

In life every one of us different goals and achieve different success. Having different goals and achieving them build our world. Everyone wants to have inspiring goals. Human beings wants happiness through achieving its goals no matter what it is. But, can every goal bring ultimate happiness and success? Can everyone who sets goal achieve what he wants? What kind of goal that befits humanity to bring him forever success and happiness? Have we ever thought? I ask you to overlook my grammatical mistakes.

One day, I thought about my goals. Something crossed my mind. I said to myself, ‘I want to be an author’ But, the questions arose, WHY? HOW? A devastating questions. Did I limit my goals to this? With weak determination, I added, ‘I want to be saved from Hellfire and enter to Jannah.”

How my determination weak it was! How my goals disordered are and lacked something greatest! This is our great problem in defining our goals. There should be priority. When we put together our goals, we lack many things. We should not let those deficiencies block our way to success. We should try our best to plant seed of determination and watering it. The more you water your determination and intention (niyyaah), the more you climb ladder of success. There may be many obstacles that block your way. But you should not lose courage and motivation. Now, let’s talk how to put together your goals in priority.

Before putting together our goals, we should know what are goal, means and success.

According to Oxford Dictionary:
Goals means-1. The object of a person’s ambition or effort; an aim or desired result
 2.The destination of a journey

Success- 1The accomplishment of an aim or purpose:

Although mean has different meaning, we chose that ‘By using something to achieve our goal.”

So when we think about ultimate success, we should not forget these three elements. Success can’t be a means and means can’t be a success. All are different things. If the person can’t differentiate these, life becomes boring and is filled with darkness. He thinks means as a success. When he thinks money as his ultimate success, that is the worst lose and bankruptcy. There are many success beyond money. When human being aspires to that ultimate success, he lives happy and successful life. What is ultimate success? Have you ever searched for ultimate success and happiness?

When we were in school, our ultimate success was to pass exam, becoming a doctor, engineer, scientist and etc. But can these be an ultimate success? How wrong we are when we make this world our ultimate success! How we are fooled when we make means our ultimate success! Let’s discuss what should be our ultimate success and means.

Have you seen the following picture?
Let’s put together our means and ultimate success
Ultimate successes are

  1. Pleasure of Allah
  2. Jannah (Paradise)
  3. Being saved from Hellfire

Our means– although our ultimate successes are the same, our means are different. Remember that working for ultimate success doesn’t mean giving up working for livelihood. Working for livelihood is a mean itself to reach our ultimate success. For example, in the following picture, in the first and second stairs, I put as my means being Good Engineer and Author respectively. I use engineering field to get my livelihood and reach my second goal or all of them. I use authoring to reach above three ultimate goals, Insha Allah by mercy of Allah. You can put anything in the first and second stairs that helps you to reach your ultimate goals. But you should not change or disorder the above three goals. If you do so, life is indeed hard.

Now, how to form solid foundation for your goals in your heart? Indeed firmness and being sincere for your goals are essential elements. Once these ultimate goals become firm in your heart, there is no confusion and wandering in the darkness of life.

  1. Your first ultimate goal is pleasure of Allah.

Indeed making pleasure of Allah as your first ultimate goal, saves you from trauma, confusion and darkness of life. No longer do you become slave for sheytan, vain desires, fellow human being and etc when your ultimate goal is pleasure of Allah. No longer do you walk in life alone when pleasing Allah is your first goal. You bear in mind this Aaya6:162

Say, “Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah , Lord of the worlds.” Al-An’am 6:162

You evaluate your deeds and speeches by two basic units. Those are first you evaluate your deeds whether your intention is for Allah or not. Second whether your deed has benefit or not. When you do these, you will not be misled by satan easily. When satan errs you, you run toward forgiveness of Allah. So you drop burdens of sins from yourself. What the best life it is in this world! Alhamdulillah Rabbil Aalamiin (All thanks and Praise be to Allah Who granted us Islam). Your good life doesn’t stop here if you have patience.

  1. Run toward Jannah (Paradise)- human being’s happiness and success are completed there. Those who don’t see beyond this world, what kind of life do they live?

“Allah has promised to the believers -men and women, – Gardens under which rivers flow to dwell therein forever, and beautiful mansions in Gardens of ‘Adn (Eden Paradise). But the greatest bliss is the Good Pleasure of Allah. That is the supreme success.” Surat At-Tawba 9:72

  1. To enter Jannah we need to pass over siraat (a bridge over hellfire)- to pass these we should have taqwa. Because Allah says;

There is not one of you but will pass over it (Hell); this is with your Lord; a Decree which must be accomplished. Then We shall save those who use to fear Allah and were dutiful to Him. And We shall leave the Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoers, etc.) therein (humbled) to their knees (in Hell).” Suurat Mariyam 19:71-72

What an ultimate success passing over hell it is! What the worst loss failing in hell it is!
Remember that as we compete for the worldly gain we should compete for the Hereafter. But we should not hate each other. Because, Jannah is not such a narrow place that can’t bear billions and billions of people.

And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden as wide as the heavens and earth, prepared for the righteous” Suurat Ali-Imraan 3:133

Allah hasn’t left us by just telling us what supreme and ultimate success are. Rather He guides us how to reach these ultimate successes.

O you who have believed, shall I guide you to a transaction that will save you from a painful punishment? [It is that] you believe in Allah and His Messenger and strive in the cause of Allah with your wealth and your lives. That is best for you, if you should know. He will forgive for you your sins and admit you to gardens beneath which rivers flow and pleasant dwellings in gardens of perpetual residence. That is the great attainment.” Suurat As-Saf 61:10-12

Indeed forming these solid foundation of your ultimate successes may take you many years of striving and struggle. Everything is struggling. There is no success without paying price. Sometimes you feel discouraged, frustrated and confused. But you should not allow such things to melt away your determination. Through studying Qur’an, you can form solid foundation of your ultimate successes in your heart. Never ever allow hopelessness to overtake you. Try your best to clear doubt about your ultimate successes. Indeed doubt is worst thing if it takes root in heart. Doubt comes from following vain desire, committing sins and ignorance. A person who denies Hereafter is a person who sunk in sins. Because sins covers heart’s eyes which looks to high horizon of Hereafter. Allah says,

Woe, that Day, to the deniers,
Who deny the Day of Recompense.
And none deny it except every sinful transgressor.” Suurat Al-Mutafiffiin 83:10-12

Khaalid ibn Ma’aadan says, “There is no servant but he has two eyes on his face by which he sees his worldly affairs. And two eyes in the heart by which he sees his Hereafter’s affairs. If Allah wants well for a person, He opens for him the eyes that found in the heart by which he looks at what Allah promised him in the gayb (Unseen). If Allah wants for him other than this, He leaves him to his own device. Then Khaalid read this verse of the Qur’an, “Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’an,or are there locks upon [their] hearts?” Suurat Muhammad 47:24 (Taken from Rewdatul Muhibbiin page 282)

So we should be careful from blinding the eyes that found in the heart by sins.

Conclusion
Indeed today many people have forgotten Hereafter. They chase only money. Some people said to me “Why  don’t you earn money from your website, are you striving and wasting your effort without money?” How do they see only money while forgetting supreme success that is grantee for their happiness and success in both world? In what tragedy we are!? Forgetting supreme but making the means as a supreme success. So let us not be deceived by Satan. He throws fear and doubt when we try to work for Hereafter. He invites us to indulge in vain desire and pleasure while forgetting greatest success. So be wise. Work hard for your worldly gain with good intention to reach your ultimate goal not to gain fame and boast. Work harder for the Hereafter as much as you can. Avoid what drags you from success such as indulging in sins. Allah says:

35:535:6

“O mankind! Verily, the Promise of Allah is true. So let not this present life deceive you, and let not the chief deceiver (Satan) deceive you about Allah. Surely, Shaitan (Satan) is an enemy to you, so take (treat) him as an enemy. He only invites his Hizb (followers) that they may become the dwellers of the blazing Fire.” Suurat Fatir 35:5-6

May Allah grant all of us success.
